On 7th August 2025 the Department of History, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, organised a “One-Day International Symposium” on “Decolonising Research: Looking at the History of Folklore Research.”

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. William Westerman, Fulbright-Nehru Fellow at NEHU, Shillong, who emphasised the need for decolonising research methodologies and adopting inclusive, community-based approaches, particularly in the study of indigenous knowledge systems.

The programme also featured an interactive session, where students actively engaged in discussions on folklore preservation and cultural heritage. The event was informative and enriching, reflecting the department’s commitment to academic excellence and meaningful scholarly engagement.
